As of January 1st, 2025, the ChocolateClash instance hosted here by kuilin has been discontinued. See here for more info.
In my shutdown notice linked above, I said that "I could be convinced on a few specific individuals, but I don't think any of them would actually want to take over under conditions that would be acceptable to me". I am now pleased to announce that an anonymous benefactor has reached out and coordinated a set of conditions that would be acceptable to me.
More specifically, they have purchased from me a limited exclusive license to use, modify, and maintain the software and the live data, under the following conditions:
Although the succeeding website will appear to be under FWA control, my intent with this license agreement is to minimize the actual disruption to end users caused by my actions, while continuing to further my previously stated interests as much as I can.
In less formal words - I trust Justin to do the right thing, and to, moving forward, maintain the project in a way that does not cause it to be used as a political tool or weapon in this space. And as long as he honestly tries to do that, I will allow this use of my code.
Justin is not the highest authority in FWA, however, and as we all know, Stuff Happens. If on the other hand, just for example, FWA destroys data owned by other leagues, or discontinues services without a good non-political reason, or attempts to copy the code out of US jurisdiction, then I will revoke the license and then, if the code continues to be used, consider legal action within my rights as the sole owner of the intellectual property.
Update (Jan. 2nd): It seems like a misunderstanding is afoot regarding whether FWA is allowed to immediately just take down the non-FWA side of the split after the server was moved, while keeping the FWA side up. Regardless, my conditions for the legal use of my code are outlined above and completely known to all parties involved. If that means the entire succeeding website and associated services are down indefinitely, so be it.
Update (Apr. 6th): Lack of funding for a reasonable split of half the expenses associated with hosting this software is, in my opinion, a "good non-political reason" for Justin to discontinue services for the non-FWA side. Although I am dismayed at this outcome, I do not think it is unfair, and accept it for what it is. The previous server has now been fully archived within my personal backups, and this landing page is now statically hosted.
